Thackray Crane Rental recently completed a complex condensing unit replacement project at the Verizon Davenport facility located on North Broad Street in Philadelphia, PA. The project required a full-service approach that included indoor warehousing, transportation logistics, crane rental, and lift execution — all coordinated by the Thackray team from start to finish.
Working within a dense urban environment with restricted access, the project demanded careful planning, experienced operators, and precise coordination to safely complete the rooftop equipment replacement.

The Challenge

The Verizon Davenport project presented several logistical and operational challenges:

The condensing units were first received and securely stored inside Thackray Crane Rental’s indoor warehouse facility before being transported directly to the Verizon Davenport site for installation. By managing both the warehousing and transportation logistics internally, the Thackray team helped streamline scheduling and minimize project delays.

For the lift itself, Thackray utilized a Tadano TC163 75-ton crane, selected for its lifting capability and maneuverability within the tight-access environment. The crane setup and rooftop picks required precise positioning and coordinated communication between operators and ground crews throughout the operation.
