Thackray Supporting the Kicks4Chris Foundation in 2018
Since our earliest days hauling tractors, trailers, and cranes wherever customers and communities have needed them, Thackray Crane Rental, Inc. has stood for more than crane rentals in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. In fact, since 1947, we’ve continued to make philanthropy and community outreach some of our highest priorities.
Today, we would like to kick off the New Year by proudly and loudly supporting the efforts of the local non-profit organization, Kicks4Chris Foundation.
The Origin of the Organization
Thackray Crane Rental, Inc. has always sought to support communities in NJ, PA, and DEin all ways that it can. When we first heard about the Kicks4Chris Foundation, its mission resonated with us and our hearts went out to the Stern family. In 2015, the Foundation was established in memory of Chris Stern, the son of our cousin Carole (Cassalia) Stern. Chris, who was diagnosed at the age of 21 with sarcoma, spent six years of his life fighting against the disease.
Despite the complication of severe heart disease brought on by immunotherapy, Chris was able to push his sarcoma into remission. Avoiding a risky heart transplant, he pushed through, going on to lead the James Madison University Relay for Life. During these years, he also worked with the City of Hope, making it his personal mission to befriend and support others fighting their own battles against cancer and sarcoma.
It was in the summer of 2014, just as Chris’s cancer returned, that he and his family halted all of the chemotherapy and radiation, turning to alternative treatments. After a consultation with a Dr. Breelyn Wilky, they learned about the medical potential of immunotherapy and the research that had been steadily advancing it.
Researching Immunotherapy in Honor of Chris
Sadly, Chris passed away the following summer, at the age of 27. In honor of Chris Stern and the fight that is still waged by millions of cancer patients to this day, Kicks4Chris has served as a vehicle to fund research into primary immunotherapy. By hosting an annual 5k, paint nights, basketball tournaments, and benefit Galas, Chris’s family has tried to bring more awareness, as well as funding, to nascent cancer treatments.
Inspired by Chris and everyone fighting against cancer, we encourage others to donate towards their cause by visiting Kicks4Chris.org. All donations received by the organization automatically qualify as tax-deductibles, and go directly toward those who need immunotherapy research the most.
Won’t you join us as we support the Kicks4Chris Foundation this new year? We truly appreciate all of your charitable considerations in an effort to “kick” cancer away!
