Back to Basics – Thackray Crane’s Annual Safety Meeting Reinforces Core Values and Celebrates Teamwork
On Thursday, April 24th, Thackray Crane held its Annual Safety Meeting at the Iron Workers Hall in the Bridgeman’s Room, welcoming team members from across the company for an evening centered around safety, education, and unity. This year’s theme—“Back to Basics”—reminded us all that while technology, tools, and techniques may evolve, the foundation of safety never changes.
Getting back to the core of safe work practices is how we continue to protect our crews, our clients, and the communities we serve.
Presented by Safety Director Mark W. Thackray, the session was both educational and inspiring. Mark led a thoughtful and engaging review of essential safety procedures, emphasizing the importance of vigilance, communication, and situational awareness on every job site. Whether it’s rigging a critical lift or simply walking a site perimeter, the basics matter.
The message was clear: when we prioritize the fundamentals, we safeguard the future—for ourselves, our coworkers, and our company.
This annual event wasn’t just about lectures and lessons. It was a celebration of the people who make Thackray Crane a leader in the industry. The evening kicked off with a delicious catered dinner by Conroy Catering, offering everyone a chance to unwind, share a meal, and catch up with fellow team members in a relaxed setting.
Throughout the gathering, there was a fun buzz thanks to a series of generous giveaways and raffles. Lucky winners walked away with Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies tickets, Bose wireless earbuds, Texas Roadhouse and Dick’s Sporting Goods gift cards, and more. It was just one of the many ways Thackray Crane continues to show appreciation for its crew’s hard work and dedication.
One of the night’s standout moments came courtesy of the team from the Local 542 Health Center, who delivered a special presentation on blood pressure awareness—a critical yet often overlooked aspect of job site wellness. Their staff was on hand throughout the evening offering complimentary blood pressure screenings, consultations, and giveaways, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to the overall health and safety of our workforce.
Beyond the presentations and prizes, what made the night truly special was the sense of camaraderie. It was a rare opportunity for the “new” and “seasoned” crews to come together, exchange stories, and reaffirm their shared purpose. In an industry where experience matters and mentorship is key, these moments of unity are invaluable.
The evening concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Carole Tadley, one of the family owners at Thackray Crane, who expressed her deep appreciation for every member of the team. She spoke to the strength of the Thackray name, built over generations, and the role each person plays in upholding that legacy. Her words were a powerful reminder that while equipment and logistics are crucial, it’s the people—the operators, drivers, mechanics, riggers, and support staff—who keep our company moving.
This successful event was the result of a true team effort, organized by the Thackray Crane Rental Safety Committee, with the strong backing of our partners at ECBM and Colonial Insurance. Their support helps make events like this possible, and their shared commitment to safety continues to make a real difference.
As we move forward into the rest of the year, the lessons from “Back to Basics” will remain with us. Because at Thackray Crane, safety isn’t just a policy—it’s a culture. And together, we’re building something stronger every day.
